The powerflushing of a system is usually carried out to restore heating systems with noise and circulation problems back to its normal operation.
A cleansing agent is forced through the system at high velocity ( but low pressure ) removing sludge and corrosion from the boiler, radiators, cylinder coil, pipework and valves. The deposits are removed from the system and replaced with clean water.
When the powerflush is complete a system inhibitor is added for future protection.
It is advisable to flush an existing system before installing a new boiler. Just draining down a system is not sufficient to remove sludge and debris that may be laying in the bottom of radiators or pipework. Most boiler manufactures advise powerflushing before installing a new boiler, and most housing associations insist upon it and will even test the water to ensure it has been carried out correctly.
All of our boiler installations have a powerflush included as standard.
We use the Kamco Clearflow power flushing kit. Their website can be found here .
